The building originated in 1890, when Kaunas was rapidly modernised, trade, crafts and urban life expanded. The author of the project is architect Simonas Gorskis.
The Curpus Street, by its name, reminds the artisans who once lived and worked here - the deaf, the potter, the leather. In historical sources this street is mentioned by various names, but has always been an integral part of the hard-working life of the city people and of the commercial life of Kaunas. The Quartet was formed near the realms of the Dominikonas monastery, which is why the town houses, workshops and small businesses were created here for a long time.
This masonry building is an authentic example of the architecture of the military period, testifying to the time when Kaunas from the medieval city became a modern centre of the region. At the end of the 19th century, the city survived the economic upturn.
Today, Kurpu Street 29 is not only a historic building, but also a living fragment of Kaunas Old Town, which protects the history of more than a hundred and forty years. His wall is reminiscent of the bustle of the craftsman's block, the changing epoch and the fading spirit of old Kaunas.
At the initiative of the architect of the building, the publicist of architecture, the Urbanist Audrius King, who also worked here, the first book house in Kaunas was created - a symbolic sign of city culture and community, inviting to share knowledge.
Kurpu g 29 - is more than a building. This is a living fragment of Kaunas Old Town, where the 19th century history, architecture culture and creative spirit of the city meet.
As the main purpose of the building is residential but is part of commercial premises, the building is easily adaptable to the conversion of both residential and commercial objects.
