Express Entry Streams
Express Entry Streams allow the province of Ontario to select qualified candidates from the federal Express Entry system who meet local labour market needs. These streams provide successful candidates with a provincial nomination, which adds 600 points to their CRS score, increasing their chances of obtaining permanent residence in Canada.
Human Capital Priorities Stream
This subtype of stream is aimed at selecting skilled workers who can make a significant contribution to the Ontario economy. The province periodically selects candidates from the Express Entry pool based on their work experience, educational attainment, and language proficiency.
Requirements:
- Active profile in the Express Entry system.
- A minimum of one year of continuous full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in an occupation in demand in Ontario.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Proficiency in English or French at a level of seven or higher on the CLB 7 scale.
- Financial self-sufficiency.
French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
This subcategory of the stream is designed for qualified French-speaking specialists. The main objective is to attract bilingual workers who meet the basic requirements:
- Active profile in the Express Entry system.
- Proficiency in French at NCLC 7 or higher, English at least CLB 6.
- A minimum of one year of full-time experience (or part-time equivalent) in an occupation covered by the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Skilled Trades Stream
This stream targets skilled trade professionals with proven work experience in Ontario. The program seeks to attract workers who can fill labor shortages in specific industries, such as construction, manufacturing, and maintenance.
Requirements:
- Active profile in the Express Entry system.
- A minimum of one year of paid work experience in Ontario in an NOC-listed occupation within the two years prior to application.
- Proficiency in English or French at CLB level 5 or higher.
- A valid work permit for Ontario.
Ontario’s Expression of Interest Streams
Ontario’s Expression of Interest (EOI) Streams are a system for selecting candidates for immigration to Ontario based on a preliminary expression of interest in the program. Candidates create profiles that are assessed on a number of factors, such as education, work experience, and language skills. Based on this data, a score is assigned, and candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for a provincial nomination. The program includes a variety of subcategories of streams:
Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream is designed for foreign workers who have received a permanent, full-time job offer from an Ontario employer and who have at least two years of paid work experience in the offered occupation.
Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream is aimed at international students who have completed their studies in Ontario and have received a job offer. To participate, you must have a diploma or degree from a recognized Ontario institution and a valid full-time job offer from a local employer. The job must be related to your field of study and you must be able to afford to settle in Ontario.
Employer Job Offer: in-Demand Skills Stream is designed to attract workers with skills in demand in specific sectors of the Ontario economy, such as agriculture, construction, and trucking. To qualify, candidates must have a valid full-time job offer in one of the in-demand professions.
It is also important to have at least 9 months of paid work experience in Ontario in the proposed occupation and proficiency in English or French at a CLB level of 4 or higher.
The Masters Graduate Stream and PhD Graduate Stream are for graduates with a master’s or doctoral degree from a recognized Ontario institution. In addition to a master’s or doctoral degree from Ontario, you must have English or French proficiency at a CLB level of 7 or higher and have lived in Ontario for at least 1 of the last 2 years.
Entrepreneur Stream is aimed at experienced entrepreneurs who are willing to invest in and manage a business in Ontario. The candidate must have at least 36 months of business management experience within the last 60 months.
Net worth requirements range from $800,000 to $1,500,000 (depending on the region of the business). You must also be willing to invest $200,000 to $600,000 to start or acquire a business in Ontario. And as proof, you must provide a viable business plan that includes the creation of new jobs.
