On Jan. 26, 2023, new rules for foreigners without a visa will come into effect in Kazakhstan. Spoiler: the rules have become stricter.

The government of Kazakhstan has amended its decree of Jan. 21, 2012, «On Approval of the rules for entry and stay of immigrants.» Previously, in Kazakhstan, there was a so-called «Visa Run», i.e., you could leave the country and re-enter to renew your legal stay. Now, these rules will change.

So, citizens of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union will be able to stay in Kazakhstan for 90 calendar days within six months (including in a row). Other foreigners who enter the country without a visa, only 30 days. In total, they will be allowed to stay in the country for 90 calendar days within 6 months. That is, after every 30 days of stay, you would have to leave and re-enter the country.

Who will not be affected by these changes? The rules do not apply to those who have a visa and residence permit — their stay in the country will depend on the validity of these documents.
