Bernhardsthal is the ideal starting point for bike tours through the gentle, hilly landscape of the Weinviertler border triangle.
The largest landscape pond in the Weinviertel is just a 2-minute walk away. With its 25 hectares of water, it is ideal for hiking and pedal boating. A special feature of this pond is the division by the railway brick bridge of the Kaiser Ferdinand Northern Railway. It dates from 1839 and is the oldest surviving railway structure in Austria.
With 13,000 hectares, Weinviertel is Austria's largest wine-growing region, known for its wine cycle paths or cellar alleys. The Grüner Veltliner in the Weinviertel is famous far beyond the borders of Austria.
The eastern part of the Weinviertel, where Bernhardsthal is located, lies above the beautiful Leiser Mountains and borders on the neighboring countries of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The east of the region surrounds the gently hilly country around Laa, with the only thermal baths in the entire Weinviertel. By bringing together different cultures, you can experience very special wine, culture and nature experiences here. As the name of the region suggests, the Leiser Mountains with the Buschberg, the highest elevation in the Weinviertel, are part of the eastern Weinviertel. The ideal place to unpack your hiking boots or mountain bike.
The March-Thaya floodplains are also particularly scenic. The area is said to be one of the most beautiful and interesting floodplain landscapes in Central Europe. The two rivers March and Thaya are best explored by canoe and kayak. Wine experience of a special kind. Large parts of this region form the Weinviertel Veltlinerland wine route.
