The climate is Mediterranean with sub-humid characteristics: dry and warm summers and quite moderate winters, with little rainfall and high humidity. The proximity of the sea means that the summers are rather cool and that in winter there are no significant frosts. The Sierra Litoral protects the territory from the cold winds that blow from the northeast in winter. Maximum rainfall occurs during the three autumn months. In summer there is a long drought of about two months. Apart from the breezes, the Levante blows in the municipality, which is the main responsible for the rain that falls in the territory, and also the Tramuntana.
The main tourist attractions of the term are the beaches and the infrastructure in the surroundings (hotels, apartments, rural tourism, camping, bars and restaurants), the forests and the large number of historical monuments that it houses.
Water sports are very important, as well as hiking and mountain biking routes. Four itineraries are proposed: the one that follows the coastal path, the one that visits the center of Calonge, the one that allows you to discover the Molins valley and the one that runs through Pla, Collet and Puigsesforques.
On the other hand, the City Council organizes gastronomic campaigns to promote the consumption of certain dishes and products, especially fish and shellfish.
The town of Calonge was built under the protection of the castle (11th century), one of the most imposing fortresses in the area. The old town preserves a large part of the medieval street layout, which revolves around the castle and the parish church. This (18th century), built on the previous Romanesque, is dedicated to Saint Martin.
The Valentina tower is an old watchtower. Located in the Treumal hamlet, it was built by the sea to guard the town against pirate attacks. It does not have internal stairs, therefore, it was accessed by an external staircase.
Also of interest are the numerous historical remains found in the municipality, such as the Puigsesforques dolmen, one of the country’s great megaliths, or the remains of an Iberian settlement (4th century BC), near the medieval fortress of Castellbarri.
