African countries are also gradually joining in attracting digital nomads and introducing special visas for them. So far, there are three such countries. Let's find out more about which countries they are and under what conditions you can move there as a nomad.

Cape Verde

In Cabo Verde, a digital nomad can obtain a visa under the Remote Working Cabo Verde program.

Visa validity period: 6 months, possible extension on the spot depending on the desired length of stay.

Requirements:

  • European, North American, Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, or Economic Community of West African Countries citizenship.
  • Proof of income for the last 6 months (minimum average bank account balance of 1500 euros for a single person or 2700 euros for a family).
  • Travel and health insurance. 

The visa application is submitted online on the program's website.

Processing time: approximately 2 weeks.

Visa fee: an airport fee of 34 euros per person, payable as a lump sum upon arrival. If you extend your visa, you need to pay a visa fee of 20 euros per person.

Living in the country: rent of a one-bedroom apartment: €170-270, utilities: €70, monthly pass: €20, lunch in an inexpensive café: €4.50.

Mauritius

Mauritius offers remote workers the option of a Premium visa. This visa can be applied for by citizens of more than 100 countries, including Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

Features: you can first arrive on a tourist visa and then apply for this visa if you want to stay longer. By the way, you can watch the island on live cameras.

Visa validity: 1 year with the possibility of extension.

Requirements:

  • Income outside Mauritius $1500 per month,
  • Provide documents confirming the purpose of visit, accommodation, etc.
  • Valid travel and medical insurance.

This visa is issued for free.

Life in the country: rent of a one-bedroom apartment: €280-400, utilities: €50, monthly pass: €20, lunch in an inexpensive café: €6.

Namibia

Features of the digital nomad visa in Namibia:

  • It does not allow you to work for local companies, open bank accounts, or purchase real estate in Namibia.
  • Separate permits are required for business, study, etc.
  • It is possible to move with family; they are registered as accompanying persons of the main applicant.

Visa validity period: 6 months, without possibility of extension. Re-application is possible only 12 months after the expiration of the previous visa.

Requirements:

  • Proof of income/financial stability ($2000 for applicant, $1000 for spouse, $500 per child monthly).
  • Valid travel documents.
  • Medical/travel insurance with Namibia risk coverage.
  • Certificate of no criminal record.
  • Medical certificate on the MHAISS form.

Visa applications should be submitted to the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) by emailing nomadvisa@nipdb.com.

Processing time: about 2–3 weeks.

Visa fee: about $124 (2200 Namibian dollars), payable on arrival.

Living in the country: rent of a one-bedroom flat: €230-300, utilities: €70, monthly pass: €20, lunch in an inexpensive café: €7.50.
