The EU is expanding its deportation powers
The main proposals include increasing the agency's staff to 30,000 and giving it a greater role in the deportation process, from establishing migrants' identities to carrying out removals. The agency would also be able to conduct migrant return operations outside the EU. The plan also предусматривает the creation of rapid response teams to be deployed in emergency situations.
As expected, the initiative has drawn criticism from human rights advocates. They fear that this could lead to the emergence of a European equivalent of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).
