The UK government ultimately did not include proposals for a new investment visa program in the draft budget. We previously reported that such a possibility was being considered, but the proposal has now been dropped.

It was previously suggested that an investment of £2.5 million could provide a pathway to obtaining residency. At the same time, the Home Office is pushing to extend the time required to obtain permanent residency. For most labor migrants: 10 years instead of 5; for certain categories of workers, including those in the care sector, 15 years; and for some refugees, 20 years.

The proposal has sparked heated debate within the government, as the new requirements could also apply to foreigners who are already living in the country but have not yet obtained permanent residency. Further details are expected in November.
