🇻🇳Vietnam has started applying new naturalization rules tailored for foreigners whom local authorities deem valuable to the country's development. Under this scheme, citizenship has already been granted to football players Michael Olaha and Williams Lee.

Since July 1, 2025, updated citizenship legislation has been in effect in Vietnam. Obtaining status through the standard procedure requires proficiency in Vietnamese, permanent residency, at least 5 years of continuous residence, and proof of financial self-sufficiency.

However, those who "benefit the state" are exempt from the main requirements. Additionally, they are allowed to retain their original citizenship, provided it is permitted by their home country. This category includes scientists and specialists in economics, medicine, education, and sports.
