Today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the government intends to advance two bills targeting those who "defame" the Israeli military.

The first proposal introduces a mechanism for stripping citizenship for spreading such allegations against IDF personnel and the state. The second would increase the maximum compensation for defamation lawsuits twentyfold (up to 1 million NIS) without requiring proof of actual damage.

Currently, Israel permits the revocation of citizenship in cases involving terrorism or high treason, but strictly through a court order.
