HISTORY OF THE LOCATION & HOUSE / STRUCTURAL INFORMATION / PRELIMINARY WORK:
zettemin is a municipality in the district of ‚mecklenburgische Seenplatte‘ in M.V. it is located off the main routes, but centrally between the müritz, the malchiner lake & the Kummerower See and has around 200 inhabitants.
The village of Z. (Cethemyn) is located around 10 km south of the reuter town of Stavenhagen and was first mentioned in documents in 1261. It developed into a manor village through the later construction of a manor farm.
The townscape is dominated by the Zettemin manor house (also called "Z. Castle" or "the round building" in literature), which was built in 1750 as a symmetrically laid out complex in the late Baroque style with a seven-axis central building (corps de logis) in brick, to which a two-storey side wings connect in a quarter-circle shape.
The main building is a three- (or 4-)storey building with a gabled central projection and high hipped roof (9.5 metre high mansard) and is a listed building - positive preliminary discussions have already been held with the relevant authorities...
the former estate was completed by a courtyard to the south with 6 larger agricultural buildings (barns, stables & storage buildings).
this unique ensemble was recently renovated by the successors of the ‚treuhand‘ destroyed insofar as the outbuildings were demolished
even though the entire complex was architecturally kept rather simple, its unique design among all the manor houses in the country and its location, design and size made it one of the more important baroque manor complexes in the country.
the former inner courtyard of the complex is now decorated with a large boulder with the inscription ‚1261 cethemyn / 2001 zettemin‘, and was given its striking new name during the GDR era: ‚platz des friedens‘…
the landscape park directly adjacent to the former outer side is also a listed building and was laid out in the first half of the 19th century according to plans by peter-joseph lenné.
also noteworthy is the position of the entire complex on a slight ‚hill‘ with a clear view of the surrounding ice age landscape.
2 small ponds from the time of construction still exist, and in place of the former estate gardening and tree nursery there is now an allotment garden owned by the municipality.
The former estate initially belonged to the Dargun monastery, which in turn was founded by the Danish Esrom monastery, and which later had the very impressive Eldena monastery complex built near Greifswald.
It is interesting to note that from this time the domain estates Z. and RMH. were able to survive as an exclave of Pomerania on Mecklenburg territory until 1939.
after the estate was built in 1750 by the noble family von Maltzahn, who were based in the region, particularly on Lake Kummer-Rower (Moltzahn, Sommersdorf, Kummerow, in Ivenack & Klein Helle, later also in Vollratsruhe & Ulrichshusen), the property belonged to the family. From 1852 it belonged to the Heyden-Linden family, before it fell to the Counts of Schwerin in the course of the 19th century, who managed the estate (with about 100 hectares) until the end of the Second World War and were expropriated as a noble family by the Soviet administrators.
The ensemble then fell to the local municipality. At that time, apartments were built in the two side wings and a daycare center, school rooms and various public facilities, such as a bank branch, hairdresser, village shop (‚Konsum‘), military sports group and a village exhibition were set up in the main building.
In 2004, the municipality sold the manor house for the purpose of setting up 'assisted living', before the new owner bought it in 2020 for the purposes of the multi-generational project ‚7-E‘ was able to acquire.
since then, extensive preparatory work has been carried out here (dismantling of outbuildings, various clearances, dismantling of defective inventory, maintenance of green spaces, planning, etc.)

The next, neighboring medium-sized center (with a worth seeing old town, cultural program, medieval city wall, large shopping center, 4 garden centers, 4 furniture stores, gastronomy / tourism, the beautifully situated, natural Tollense Lake and a convenient location
= railway junction between Berlin, the Baltic coast and Stettin / POLAND) is located approx. 40 km away in Neubrandenburg.
