The city is home to a restored 2007, Russian cemetery where the generals and officers of the Russian army who emigrated to Yugoslavia after 1917 are buried, and a small monument has been erected in honor of all the Russians who found eternal peace in the land of Montenegro. For the lush vegetation and abundance of relict trees and shrubs, Herceg-Novi is called the "botanical garden of Montenegro."
