The city of Alassio is located in the “Bay of the Sun”, part of the Ligurian Riviera, which is in great demand. The sandy beach of Alassio stretches in length for three kilometers. Diving enthusiasts will appreciate the transparent sea depths with rich marine flora and fauna. The climate of Alassio is mild, the coast is almost always good and pleasant weather. Not far from the coast is the island of Gallinara, a famous nesting place of the “royal” gulls. The Port of Alassio offers 450 berths for yachts.
The name Alassio is also associated with the sight of “Muretto”. The artist and owner of the famous Ligurian Riviera establishment Caffè Roma Mario Berrino turned the stone walls of the Alassio public park into an open-air museum. In his cafe in the postwar years gathered writers, poets, philosophers, actors and artists of world fame. Mario Berrino asked the famous regulars of Caffè Roma to leave autographs on ceramic tablets. Among the first autographs on this “wall of glory” were autographs by Hemingway, the Chetra Quartet and Cosimo Di Cellier. In total, Berrino collected 740 autographs of the stars, which can be seen at any time. The traditional Miss Muretto contest is held in Alassio. The historic center of Alassio runs along the promenade, built up with picturesque fishermen's houses, as well as along XX Settembre street, which is called "budello". The main street has not lost the characteristic charm of a typical Ligurian lane. You can do shopping, looking at small shops of artisans and prestigious boutiques. In Alassio, a large number of hotels are located in historical buildings: the Palazzo Ferrero de Gubernatis ('700), the Palazzo Scofferi on Veneto Street and further along the Milite Ignoto Street, we find the Palazzi Vallega and Brea, as well as the Montanaro house on the Plaza della Valle. Near the sea is the promenade of Ciccione, on which you can walk in the shade of pine trees. From the pier Bestoso offers a beautiful view. In Alassio you can find gastronomic delicacies: from butarga to sweet cookies "bachi", whose name translates as "kisses". This region is famous for its beautiful white wine.
