While European countries one after another are making the conditions of migration for highly qualified specialists more and more attractive, Hungary is tightening such recruitment.

The Hungarian Minister of State for Employment Policy, Sándor Czomba, said only the required number of foreign workers would be allowed into the country. During a parliamentary debate on the guest worker bill, he noted that the proposal is not intended to limit a significant influx of jobseekers into the country but rather to support local workers and create new employment opportunities.

Thus, the Hungarian government intends to fill vacancies primarily with Hungarians and citizens of the European Union, as well as citizens of neighboring countries such as Ukraine and Serbia. Specialists from third countries are seen as a last resort and only within certain quotas so as not to endanger the domestic labor market.

The law is still awaiting approval, but it has already sparked conflicting opinions among Hungarians. Some consider such measures important and extremely beneficial for the local market, while others point out that they will harm companies that depend on foreign workers and thus slow down the country's economic development.

According to official data, there are about 430,000 foreigners living in Hungary, of whom 161,000 have an EU registration card and another 162,000 have a residence permit in Hungary.
