Blanes is one of the oldest resorts in northeastern Spain and one of the oldest cities on the coast. It is located in the southern part of the Costa Brava resort area. Blanes is divided by a single rock into southern and northern parts. The southern part of the city, surrounded by gardens, is almost completely given over to a tourist center with hotels, magnificent beaches, shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment centers and other infrastructure. The northern part is home to residential areas and a port that supplies coastal restaurants with the freshest seafood—the basis of much of the local cuisine.
