In Sardinia, nomads are offered to rent almost free housing
The village of Ollolai in Sardinia offers foreigners who work remotely the opportunity to rent houses for an extremely low fee. However, only ten people will be able to take advantage of this proposal.
The population of Ollolai in the last 40 years has decreased to 1174 people, so the authorities are trying to attract more people there by offering low rent. The mayor of the village, Francesco Columbu, stressed that they are working to improve housing conditions for all residents.
Before that, the local council had already taken measures to attract foreigners. We are talking about the popular program “House for 1 Euro”, under which you had to buy an abandoned house and renovate it. Since then, the village council has sold 13 houses; three more are still for sale. This time, the village authorities hope to attract digital nomads who can work from anywhere in the world.
The Italian government already passed a law on the nomad visa last March, but it has not yet been introduced. Currently, workers from countries outside the European Union can get a temporary work visa, with which they can work in Italy for a certain period of time.
