Balchik is a city on the coast, in the north-east of Bulgaria, 47 km from the city of Varna and not far from the resort of Albena. Balchik is the administrative center of the community of Balchik in the Dobrich region. It is the third most important port in Bulgaria after Burgas and Varna.
Within walking distance, 15 minutes by the sea or 3-5 minutes by car, the rich infrastructure of the famous resort of Albena: aqua Park, playgrounds, shopping centers and shops, cafes, restaurants, spa services, beaches and discos. Sights of Balchik:
The Quiet Nest Palace and the Botanical Garden. The palace was built by order of the Queen of Romania, Maria of Edinburgh in 1924 -1931 as a summer residence, with a huge park. On the territory of the residence there is a chapel and 10 villas, and the heart of the complex is the Queen's palace, which has a large tower. Near the palace there is a stone throne, on which the queen liked to watch the sunrise. The palace Park, which covers an area of 65 km2, is made in the manner of imitation of the Cretan labyrinth, the design of the park was developed by the Swiss gardener Jules Jani. The park, which is now the Balchik Botanical Garden, has more than 200 species of different tree species, many flowers, and the cactus collection is the second largest (more than 250 species) after the collection in Monaco.
Recently, in 2007, a sensational archaeological discovery took place in Balchik - when digging a pit under the strytel, a well – preserved temple to the Phrygian Goddess of fertility, Cybele, built in 280-260 BC, was discovered.
