Grakarev Thurn Castle is an exceptional medieval fortress located in the picturesque village of Hrastier, in the municipality of Schenternei. This beautifully preserved detached castle is the perfect combination of historical charm and natural beauty. Built in 1360 according to the public archives, Grakarev Turn witnessed centuries-old changes in culture and architecture.
This object has a fascinating history dating back to the XIV century, and was first mentioned in 1311. The castle was built by a family of Gretzers from Graz, and then changed hands several times, hosting various noble families and influential personalities. One of the most famous residents was the Slovenian writer Janec Trdina, who wrote parts of his famous book Tales and Tales of Gorjantsi when he lived here.
Despite the damage sustained during World War II, the castle retains its original medieval tower in the center of the building. Repair work in 1952 saved the castle from further destruction, and although it is still awaiting full restoration, it continues to stand proudly against the backdrop of the picturesque hills of Goryantsev.
