For sale: an exceptional apartment in one of Warsaw’s most recognisable modernist buildings – the historic Visual Artists’ House (Dom Artystów Plastyków) at ul. Filtrowa 83, right by Plac Narutowicza (Ochota).
For those looking for more than just an apartment – a place with soul, a remarkable history and a unique character, where pre-war architecture meets a high standard of modern living.
Location:
Old Ochota is one of Warsaw’s most atmospheric areas. Filtrowa Street, lined with historic buildings, greenery and pre-war tenements, is one of the capital’s most sought-after addresses.
The apartment is right by Plac Narutowicza, with excellent connections to every part of the city. Nearby: restaurants, cafés, bakeries, shops, schools, universities and green spaces.
The building:
The building at ul. Filtrowa 83 was built in 1925–1929 to a design by architect Jan Stefanowicz as the Visual Artists’ Estate. Even then it was seen as ahead of its time – in 1925 the daily “Rzeczpospolita” called it “the first entirely moderne building”, and its model was shown at architecture exhibitions across Poland.
Before the war it was known as the Visual Artists’ House and was linked with Warsaw’s artistic, intellectual and cultural circles – home to artists, architects and creative people. It is one of the finest examples of interwar Warsaw modernism.
The apartment:
The apartment has 113 m² of total area (95.5 m² usable) spread over several levels – more like an intimate city townhouse than a typical tenement flat.
Designed by an architect and finished with high-quality materials, it blends historic architecture with modern design into an elegant, timeless and highly functional space.
The views are a major asset: to the west over Plac Narutowicza, while the day area overlooks a well-kept, green inner patio offering peace and privacy in the heart of the city.
Floors are American oak boards, complemented by marble window sills and plenty of bespoke joinery.
