Sopotskin is the gateway to the famous August Canal. At the beginning of the XIX century, this man-made waterway connected the Neman with the Vistula. Today such can be seen only in Holland, England or Sweden. The canal once predetermined the development of the town. At the peak of construction, about ten thousand people worked here. In the district there were breweries, potteries, windmills and so on.
The railways reduced the transport value of the canal. But the interest of tourists has increased. Between the First and Second World Wars, a large festival was held at the Dombrovka lock - "Sea Festival". European rich people arranged bicycle rides and kayaking here. From Grodno to Augustov and back there were two wheeled steamers. In 2005, after the restoration, the canal gained its original appearance, and thousands of tourists again go to the protected areas.

This is the residence of the nobility of the Volovich family, built in 1799 by the Italian architect Giuseppe Sacco in the image and likeness of Versailles. The highlight of the estate is a system of ponds located at different levels. The palace and the surrounding area were the scenery for the famous Russian military action film "Assassination".

The place received an unusual name by the name of the nobleman, to whom the Polish king in the XVI century gave these lands. The estate of Nikolai Sopotko locally dubbed Sopotsky yard. The only thing that survived from that time is the Jewish cemetery, the oldest in Belarus. Tourists from all over the world go to see the graves of the XIII century. On almost a hundred gravestones can be read inscriptions.
