Location and leisure
Bernhardsthal is an ideal starting point for cycling and hiking tours through the gently hilly landscape of the Weinviertler Dreiländereck.
The largest landscape of the wine district is just a two-minute walk away. With a water area of around 25 hectares, it offers many leisure opportunities such as walks, hiking and pedal boating. A special attraction is the historical railway brick bridge of the Kaiser-Ferdinand-Nordbahn, from 1839, the oldest preserved railway building in Austria.
The wine district is known for its green Veltliner with around 13,000 hectares of Austria's largest wine-growing area and far beyond the national borders. Numerous cellar lanes, wine trails and traditional haystones shape the region.
The eastern part of the wine district, in which Bernhardsthal is located, borders the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The region around Laa an der Thaya offers additional leisure and recreation facilities with the only thermal spa in the wine district. The nearby Leiser mountains with the Buschberg as the highest elevation of the wine district are a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers.
Nature lovers also appreciate the unique March-Thaya-Auen, one of the most beautiful and ecologically valuable landscapes in Central Europe. The March and Thaya rivers can be explored with canoe or kayak.
Large parts of this region are part of the famous wine road Veltlinerland and offer a unique combination of wine, culture and nature.
