Over time, the foreign word was transformed and began to be pronounced as "peyia." Local architecture eloquently testifies to the many-sided historical past of these places. In the vicinity of the village grow bananas, oranges, lemons, grapes, almonds, carob (carob), olives, and various vegetables grow. Banana plantations occupy about 119 hectares and are the only place in Cyprus where bananas are grown.
