Sirmione does not need much presentation: it is a small jewel located in the middle of lower Lake Garda.
The municipality borders Peschiera del Garda to the southeast and Desenzano del Garda to the southwest. The lake section borders Lazise and Castelnuovo del Garda to the east and Padenghe sul Garda to the north.
The old town lies at the northern end of a long, narrow peninsula, about four kilometres long, which divides the southern shore of the lake into two parts, and is also configured as an island, having been isolated from the peninsula by a navigable ditch crossed by a single access road, a bridge.
It still retains a medieval urban structure with narrow and irregular streets. Since the 1970s, architectural interventions have been made on the external walls of the buildings (the first were the Hotel Grifone and the Hotel Speranza), giving them back their original appearance, with a view of bricks and stones. It is a traffic-calmed area, you could say it is a paradise for pedestrians.
