Sometimes called "Casa delle Porte Azzurre" or House with the Blue Doors, Studio Sicilia was designed as an intimate, luminous retreat for visiting artists and writers. Ideally situated as a base for exploration of surrounding countryside and regional beaches, the open-plan studio with loft space is for the discerning.

Renovations were kept true to its classic design, one unchanged for centuries: wood beams and tiled roof ideally suited to the Mediterranean climate. Layers of lime-based paints, applied over the past century, remain on the wood beamed ceiling. With quality materials and respect for the structure's history and original features, refinined yet retaining a rawness that suits Sicily.
Exterior stairs give it dimension and unusual angles. The downstairs studio creates an independent apartment for visitors or guests, completely separated, gives maximum privacy. Two upper rooms with skylights, under sloping wood beams, light and air flow through interior doors with unique arches. Quirky layout can be an advantage, the way light and spade interact like facets of a crystal.
Vintage tiles from an antique shop in Rome, and Piazza Peranni antique market in Palermo. Cream-colored bathroom tiles echo the marble and stone curbs that line the streets of Cianciana.
The owners lived many years in Asia and elements of that continent included in renovations.
