Kutaisi Airport will be able to accommodate long-haul aircraft by the end of 2026
Construction began in the autumn of 2024. At that time, according to 1TV, the company Anagi was selected as the contractor, and the investment was estimated at up to GEL 240 million. Completion was originally planned for the spring of 2026. In addition to the runway, plans include a logistics center and a cargo terminal. Levan Moseshvili, CEO of United Airports of Georgia, expects the project to attract more tourists and increase cargo traffic.
Kutaisi is Georgia's second-largest airport by passenger volume. According to Georgia Today, it handled approximately 1.67 million passengers in 2023—a 109% increase compared to the previous year.
Transport infrastructure is also being upgraded in Tbilisi. The city is set to receive 111 new metro cars manufactured by CRRC, comprising 14 four-car trains and 11 five-car trains. The contract with GT Group is valued at EUR 150 million and is financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The first train is due to arrive by the end of 2026, with passenger service on Line 1 scheduled to begin in 2027. The new cars will replace the aging Soviet-era fleet, marking the first such upgrade in 34 years.
For the real estate market, both projects signify improved transport accessibility.
