The picturesque town of Oprtalj was first mentioned in 1115 on a 378 meter high hill. Venice, France, Austria and Italy have controlled it since the 19th century. Today, this territory is known for truffles and several beautiful hiking routes through a picturesque environment with forests, fields, caves, the valley of the Mirna River and its source of thermal and mineral healing water.
