Pienza is one of the most beautiful and romatic cities of Tuscany, towering above the magnificent landscapes of the Val D'Orcia Valley, which have long become a symbol of the ideal Tuscan landscape. In the midst of these beautiful hills, a Renaissance dream of an ideal city was born from the enlightened humanist Sylvius Aeneas Piccolomini, Pope Pius II. The Piccolomini family was once one of the noblest and richest in Siena, but by the time of the birth of Sylvius Aeneas (1405), his father's only possession was a village then called Corsignano. Here the future Pope was born, and even the name itself (among other things) the city owes it to him - on February 12, 1462, Pius II renamed the place of his birth in Pienza, "the city of Pius".
In 1996, UNESCO declared the city a World Heritage Site, and in 2004 this honorary title was extended to the entire Val D'Orcia Valley.
In addition to the numerous magnificent sights, palaces, cathedrals and museums in the city itself, five minutes from Hotel Pienza offers many other opportunities for a delightful journey through Tuscany.
In the Val D'Orcia valley there are also many cities that deserve attention, from which such pearls of Tuscany as Montalcino, Montepulciano, Cusi, Cortona stand out. There are also various thermal springs nearby.
