A draft law on affordable housing has appeared on the European Commission’s official website. It is aimed at helping popular tourist cities and regions tackle housing shortages.

According to Reuters journalists, the legislation would help ease pressure on the housing stock by limiting the number of properties available for tourist rentals. It would also allow authorities to introduce specific rules for short-term rentals and restrict the purchase or use of housing that is not intended to serve as a primary residence. The European Commission also plans to establish common criteria for identifying areas in need of such measures.

This is particularly important for “Golden Visa” holders, as the restrictions could affect the profitability of properties that have already been purchased, as well as those being considered for purchase.
