In the 60’ Cetona became the Buen Retiro of many protagonists of the theatre and Movie world of those glorious years; so close to Rome tough so green and silent: just perfect! Also Ruggero Maccari, one of the most important screenwriter of that era (Oscar Nomination for “Profumo di Donna” 1974) has been attracted by this town where already Mario Monicelli had a house, and bought the “Pietreto”. “Magical” is the definition of anybody who has visited this place! The trip to Cetona is magical by itself: the natural beauty, the silence the continuos birds’ singing…In fact to reach il Pietreto you step off the Provinciale and turn into a voluptuous forest in via del Pietreto. The gate itself is impressive being located between a natural gigantic rock and hollow stone wall. From here the path is twofold: on one way we reach the Villa and the other the Guest House. Here we are! Surrounded by a magical composition of native high trees and plants: oaks, fir and beech trees, ferns and musk accurately mixed with the plants and flowers added by the owners… And so many canopies scattered here and there to shelter form the sun…. Or the rain. The brick one in front of the Villa offers the possibility to admire the uncontaminated view on Valle di Chiana and the old city of Chiusi; the wooden on, behind the guest house is also perfect for dining outside due to the proximity to the BBQ, then the iron gazebo covered by the refreshing ivy. Another huge one by the swimming pool. And we add to this the orangerie, just behind the Villa, that with its glass walls allows to enjoy the park also during the coldest weather (in Cetona is rarely very cold!). In the highest part of the park, behind the lawn under the pines there is a magic table setting; it’s all covered by musk and you have the feeling that some Fairies are coming for dinner soon…. The Pietreto park makes you feel like stopping in every single spot as long as possible; in fact, you always discover different treasures inside or outside the property to stare. Let’s go down to the swimming pool area: the shape of it and the rocks (always a mixture of natural and manufacts) of its border and the “muretto” facing the Val di Chiana. Guest House The Guest House develops in 2 levels: we get into the living room (which has a fireplace): on the left a possible little bedroom, then a bathroom on the right, and a little kitchen with access to the garden; on the left of the kitchen a master bedroom with access to the garden too, On the first floor we find 2 master bedrooms facing the park and a bathroom. Other details that enrich the property are: a glass windowed orangerie behind the Villa, a barbecue area behind the Guest House, a well, an embedded garage for 1 car on the left of the house. Along the wall that line the garden on Via del Pietreto there are 2 more small gates: they lead to shortcuts for the swimming pool or to the garden. We leave the Pietreto and its beautiful park still hearing the birds’ songs and the sound of the wind among the trees: no other sound, just silence.
