HISTORICAL INFORMATION ABOUT LOCATION & HOUSE / STRUCTURAL INFORMATION / PREPARATORY WORK:

zettemin is a municipality in the district ‚Mecklenburgische seenplatte‘ in MV. It is located away from the main routes, but still centrally between the Müritz, the Malchiner See & the Kummerower See and has around 200 inhabitants.

the village of Z. (cethemyn) is located approx. 10 km south of the Reuter town of Stavenhagen and was first mentioned in a document in 1261. Due to the later construction of an estate, it developed into an estate village.

the townscape is characterized by the zettemin manor house (also called ‚Schloss Z.‘ or ‚der Rundbau‘ in the literature), which was built in 1750 as a symmetrically laid out complex in the late Baroque style with a seven-axis central building (corps de logis). brick was built, each of which is adjoined by a two-story side wing in a quarter circle.

the main house is designed as a three - (or 4) - story building with a gabled central projection and a high hipped roof (9.5 meter high mansard), and is under monument-protection - positive preliminary discussions with the competent authority have already been held…     

the former manor complex was completed by a courtyard in a southerly direction with 6 larger agricultural buildings (barns, stables & storage buildings).

this unique ensemble has recently been destroyed by the successors of the ‚treuhand‘ in that the outbuildings were dismantled 

although the overall complex was kept architecturally rather simple, its unique design made it one of the more important baroque estates in the country due to its unique design among all the country's manor houses and its location, design and size.

the former inner courtyard of the complex is now adorned with a large boulder with the inscription ‚1261 cethemyn / 2001 zettemin‘, and was given its striking new name during the GDR era: ‚place of peace‘…

 

the directly adjacent landscape park, which was created on the former outer side, is listed as a historical monument and was built in the first half of the 19th century. JH created according to plans by Peter-Joseph Lenné.

also noteworthy is the position of the entire complex on a slight ‚top‘ with a clear view of the surrounding Ice Age landscape.

2 small ponds from the time of construction still exist, and instead of the former estate garden with a tree nursery, there is now an allotment garden owned by the community. 

the former estate initially belonged to the dargun monastery, which in turn was a founding of the Danish monastery esrom, and which later had the Eldena monastery complex near Greifswald, which is well worth seeing, built.

what is interesting is the fact that the Z. and RMH cathedral estates were built from this time. as an exclave from Pomerania to Mecklenburg. territory was preserved until 1939.

after the estate was built in 1750 by the noble von maltzahn family based in the region, especially at Kumme-rower see (moltzahn, sommersdorf, kummerow, in ivenack & klein helle, later also in Vollratsruhe & ulrichshusen), it belonged to the family from 1852 heyden-linden before it was built during the 19th century. Century fell to the Counts of Schwerin, who did well (with around 100 hectares) until the end of the 2nd century. WK and were expropriated as a noble family by the Soviet administrators.

the ensemble then fell to the local community, at which time apartments were built into the two side wings and a crèche, school rooms and various public facilities, such as a bank branch, hairdresser, village shop (‚consumption‘), military sports group and a village exhibition were set up in the main building.

in 2004, the municipality sold the manor house for the purpose of building 'assisted living' before the new owner was able to purchase it in 2020 for the purposes of the multi-generational project ‚7-E‘.

since then, extensive preparatory work has been carried out here (dismantling of outbuildings, various renovations, dismantling of defective inventories, maintenance of green spaces, planning, etc.)

a larger, renowned district hospital, supplemented by three 'medical centers', can be found in the Hanseatic city of Demmin, and other, some private, specialist clinics can be found in nearby Waren / Müritz and in Teterow.

the nearest, neighboring middle center (with an old town worth seeing, cultural program, medieval city wall, large EK center, 4 hardware stores, 4 furniture stores, gastronomy/tourism, the beautifully located, natural Great Lake and a convenient location

= railway junction between Berlin, Baltic Sea coast & Stettin / POLAND) is approx. 40 km away in Neubrandenburg.

from a coach house to a workshop, common room, warehouse, cold room, daycare center, classroom, office, service provider, bank branch, ‚gymnasium‘, exhibition room, aristocratic representative salons to more recent living areas…

during this period, the building underwent various minor renovations and major redesigns;

for example, of the former 7 outer doors of the right side wing, 4 are currently still there, and of the 9 wing doors / remote gates & house entrances of the SFL, only 4 are currently still in use –when restored, there is direct access to the private ‚front garden area‘ in the courtyard…

Of the dozen existing allotment gardens - annual rent supposedly 18 €! - currently only 2 are used, the public right to use the park is practically not exercised in any way by the village population, so that in recent years we have been able to carry out all of the project's own events there completely undisturbed or without any participation in the operational expenses for the park.

The 3 natural properties directly opposite from the area of the former estate come from private individuals, the 1-Ha (pasture) property is offered by the municipality - the same applies to the 3 nearby residential buildings (4 WE each) on your own, larger natural property…
