Mas Xiquet
Located in “Ullà”, a town located in the “Baix Empordà” region, it is a historic farmhouse included in the inventory of the architectural heritage of Catalonia.
It is an important estate in the Ullà environment, located for a long time, at the foot of a path, already coming from the Iberians and the Romans, which linked Empúries with the interior of the Empordanet and Girona.
Of older origin, the current appearance of the building results from the reforms of 1823, despite the loading bay that contains the date of 1731, from a previous reform. The gallery on the south facade of semicircular arches stands out, which is complemented by the row of windows on the upper floor, offering a beautiful picture.
Located at the foot of Montgrí, in the highest part of the nucleus, it is a building with a main body of rectangular plant, of three floors and covered with tiles on two slopes, with annexed rooms. The midday façade is remarkable, with a composition of arches, generally semicircular, which become smaller on the upper floors. The ground floor shows a porch with four arches; the first floor a gallery with twelve arches (with lintelled openings corresponding to the exits of the interior rooms), and the second floor with fifteen windows and a sundial.
This large construction consists of 1700m2 with a large plot that surrounds it of 13.6 hectares.
It is known in the literary world as the one that was owned by Caterina Albert (Víctor Català) and his brother, and it is said that it is here where he wrote part of his most famous novel, “Solitud”, inspired by the places of the Montgrí massif and , mainly, of the hidden valley of Santa Caterina, with its hermitage, a place that is just behind the Muntanya d’Ullà and the Montgrí castle.
