El Altet is a district of the Spanish municipality of Elche and has two beaches: El Altet beach, which is 1 km from the town center, and is a 2 km long space parallel to a peculiar dune system. To the south of this is the beach and dunes of Carabassí, belonging to the hamlet of Balsares (also belonging to the municipal term of Elche).
The population is located in a strategic enclave, the Alicante-El Altet airport being within its pedestrian area and located 8 km from the capital of the province and 15 km from the urban area of Elche. The urban area of El Altet is located just one kilometer from the Mediterranean coast. It has an arid Mediterranean climate.
In the pediatric term are the enclaves of the Sierra Colmenar, in the vicinity of the City of Light; the salt flats of El Altet-Aguamarga or Saladar de Aguamarga (former Catalan Salt Mines); and the dunes of El Altet, a natural barrier between the town and its beaches. To the south of the district is the Fondet de la Senieta. Other natural spaces are Las Ballesteras and El Bardalet, old hills reforested with eucalyptus trees.
