The Palace, of medieval origins, stands in front of the historical centre of Semproniano, a small village near Saturnia. The building was the seat of the municipality since the beginning of '500: from its loggia the Priors issued edicts and laws or condemned the evildoers who were then imprisoned in the public prisons of the palace, which are located exactly under the loggia.
Location
Semproniano is the southernmost of the towns of Amiata, the gateway to the volcano for those arriving from Saturnia, and therefore from the south, through the Aurelia. The thermal baths of Saturnia are only 10 km away while the characteristic centre of Castel del Piano is about 25 km away. The provincial capital, Grosseto, is 60km away.
Description
The building is on three levels. On the ground floor, after crossing the stone arch under the loggia, there are the old municipal prisons, composed of 4 rooms, one of which is characterized by a beautiful brick ceiling with a barrel vault. The floor is completed by three other independent rooms for warehouse use, accessible from the square.
On the first floor there are two separate units:
– Flat A: composed of entrance hall, living room, bathroom, double bedroom, utility room and n° 2 unwindowed living rooms;
– Flat B: composed of entrance, living/dining room and bedroom on the first floor and n°2 two bedrooms on the second floor accessible by internal staircase located in the living room.
State and finishes
The current state of the property is in need of complete renovation. Walls in elevation made of local stone, partitions in stone and brick; wooden floors with a Tuscan style, with oak beams and rafters and horizontal top in terracotta tiles. The flat B has the 2nd floor in the attic; the roof is made with primary and secondary wooden frame, with mizzen of the roof covering in tiles and embrices. the latter is to be completely rebuilt, with concrete caldana, thermal insulation and sheathing. Important are the lintels and shovels of the portals in sculpted sandstone, very rare and valuable elements in this area.

The palace can be used as a private noble residence or for tourist accommodation through a series of interventions that involve changing the use of some rooms..
